BPT Responds to Bath City Centre Security Consultation

February 4, 2021Bath Preservation TrustConsultations, Public Realm, World Heritage Site

The Trust has responded to the public consultation for the proposed implementation of security measures within Bath’s city centre. Proposals focus on the restriction of vehicle access at busy times for pedestrian safety, as part of a wider package of measures to address increasing concerns of terrorist threats in the UK.

The consultation documentation can be accessed here. Consultation closed on 31st January.

We have acknowledged the need for appropriate measures to ensure the continued safety of Bath’s streets for its pedestrian users and improve public amenity, subject to addressing disabled access concerns. We have expressed the necessity to consider the impact on Bath’s historic environment and public realm and the need for a design coherent with Bath’s existing approach to street furniture and public infrastructure.

You can read our response in full here.

The changes would harm heritage and the diversity and vitality of our high streets, and facilitate the creation of poor-quality homes.
