Tesco Express. George’s House, Bathwick Hill, Bath

Proposal
Mixed Species Stems – fell to ground level.
Our Response

The proposed location of tree works is along the eastern gable end of the Tesco Express building where this looks onto the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath, situated within the Bath City-Wide Conservation Area and World Heritage Site. The setting of the Canal is characterised by its green planting that encloses the route of the Canal through Bath’s urban townscape, and it remains a significant ecological corridor and green amenity space that forms part of Bath’s green setting. By virtue of its well-planted character and appearance, it would be desirable to see existing greening sustained and enhanced wherever possible.

It is indicated that there is currently a conflict between the existing small-scale tree planting in this area and the functionality of the building. Should the removal of this area of tree coverage be considered acceptable, we strongly encourage consideration of alternative mitigatory planting measures, either of replacement trees of a suitable species and size, or else lower-level shrub planting where this would incorporate continued greening of this area and its associated characteristics whilst addressing ongoing conflicts with the main building.
