Land To North West Of Granville Road Junction, Lansdown Road, Lansdown, Bath

Proposal
Multi-stemmed Ash growing in grass verge adjacent to Lansdown Road (T5) – Fell to ground level.
Our Response

This application focuses on tree works to the western, roadside boundary of the Ensleigh housing development, situated within the Bath World Heritage Site. Whilst the housing development is excluded from the Bath conservation area, the conservation area boundary extends to include the northern verge along Lansdown Road. As such, the area for proposed tree works should be considered in relation to sustaining the character and appearance of the conservation area and landscape setting of the World Heritage Site.

We appreciate the need for removal due to ash dieback. However, we note the importance of verge tree planting in this area to visually soften the impact of this suburban-style development within an area of primarily rural character. There is a need to sustain an active tree canopy in this area to prevent the gradual erosion of this green screening and setting, and we therefore encourage replanting of appropriate species where necessary to ensure tree coverage in this area is suitably reinforced.
