Our Response

The proposed subject of tree works is a key street tree outside of Green Park Station, situated within the Bath conservation area and World Heritage Site. BPT has previously commented on works to this tree (see 18/02901/TCA) and we therefore continue to highlight its importance in streetscape views and as a large, prominent example of public tree planting in the area.

We are supportive of the proposed pruning works that form part of regular maintenance necessary to ensure the sustained health of the tree as well as maintaining an appropriate balance against the frontage of the Grade II Green Park Station. However, considering the tree’s significance as a large, well-developed public specimen which has a positive greening contribution to the character and appearance of the area, we maintain that great care is required when approaching and conducting any maintenance or alteration works. We do not wish to see it overly reduced (as was the case with the plane tree next to the Salvation Army HQ across the road) and works should seek to retain its overall symmetry and street presence. It is therefore vitally necessary for work to be undertaken by an expert contractor, and we strongly recommend that this is conditioned as part of any forthcoming consent.
