Hartwells Garage Site Appeal Inquiry

February 23, 2021Bath Preservation TrustUncategorized

An Inquiry into the appeal against the refused proposal for a mixed-use development of housing and student accommodation on the site of Hartwells Garage started on the 16th February. On behalf of the Trust, Senior Planning and Conservation Officer Joanna Robinson spoke to the Inspector against the application on 18th February. She summarised that the proposed delivery of student accommodation would impair the successful delivery of much-needed family and affordable housing on the site. The massing, scale, density, height, and inappropriate frontage treatment of the development would fail to reinforce local distinctiveness and harm views. The deep plan form would be harmful to the area’s fine-grained, Victorian residential appearance and character.
