Curator (Maternity leave cover)

  • Bath Preservation Trust, No. 1 Royal Crescent, Bath BA1 2LR
  • 12 months fixed term contract for maternity cover
  • Full-time, (35 hours) 5 days a week
  • Job shares for this role will also be considered, please state in your application if you wish to apply for the role on a job share basis.
  • Salary: £27,281 per annum

We are recruiting an experienced curator to work together with the Senior Curator on caring for BPT’s accredited collections and loans at No. 1 Royal Crescent, The Herschel Museum of Astronomy, Beckford’s Tower and the Museum of Bath Architecture, as well as the archive and the library held by BPT.

This role will involve both collections management and documentation as well as researching and curating exhibitions across the museums, maintain our accredited status and reinstate and maintain GIS at BPT museums in line with our forward plans.

You will be a great collaborator, who enjoys working with collections and contributing ideas to the exhibition programme provided by BPT across all our sites. As well as having had curatorial experience you contribute with new perspectives and best practice to the care of our collections and forward programme. you will be a strong communicator and administrator, implementing and maintaining systems and databases as required.

Some of our activity confronts contested heritage and wherever possible we work with people, communities and other organisations to deal with these subjects appropriately, including historic and contemporary impacts. The successful candidate will be confident and inclusive in this area as well as with their approach to EDI.

Work Experience

If you are interested in working in museums we can offer a limited number of work experience placements.

We have placements for young people aged 16-19 to experience working in the heritage sector. We will show you a series of behind-the-scenes glimpses of our museum as a heritage business and visitor attraction.

We will aim to give you a range of different experiences dependent upon our season and calendar as well as your interests.

You will work with our staff in business and events, social media and visitor experience, exhibitions and guiding. You will be able to do some personal research and discuss your future career ideas with staff.
