BPT Renews Call Against Unjustified Harm to Heritage in Resubmitted Plans for Former Bath Press

February 11, 2022Bath Preservation TrustBath Press

Following refusal at Planning Committee, new plans have been resubmitted for the former Bath Press site. The scheme continues to propose over 270 dwellings across the site, along with new commercial space along Lower Bristol Road.

BPT continues to welcome the long-overdue development of this brownfield site. We are pleased to see that the applicant has taken our previous concerns on board, and the historic chimney that forms part of the Bath Press facade will now be retained, having gained significance as a recognised local landmark.

However, we maintain strong concerns regarding the proposed intersection of the new development with the retained historic façade and chimney.

We continue to strongly question the absence of affordable housing from this scheme. It is claimed that it is not viable to provide any affordable housing, despite the scale of development.
