Bath Preservation Trust Appoints New CEO

Bath Preservation Trust (BPT) has appointed Alex Sherman as its new Chief Executive.

Alex – who joins BPT after seven years as Head of Business for the South West Heritage Trust – will take up his new role on 4 October 2021.

Alex says “I am delighted to be joining Bath Preservation Trust at such a significant time. As we look forward to the future, I am excited to work with our many passionate staff, volunteers, and members, as well as existing and new partners, to make BPT more resilient, inclusive and relevant to all people.”

He added “Covid-19 has shown the importance of our green spaces, and made us value our built heritage, and the rich culture which Bath has in abundance. I want everyone to be connected to and inspired by this heritage through learning and events, a varied public programme, and our amazing museums, shining a light on Bath’s contributions to creativity, science, and the arts. I am also keen to further our role to campaign for and celebrate appropriate and environmentally sustainable development which protects this wonderful green city for the future.”

Alex takes over from Caroline Kay, who stood down as CEO at the end of April 2021 following more than 13 successful years at the helm.

BPT Chair Thomas Sheppard said “The appointment of our next CEO has been an important step for Bath Preservation Trust and one we did not want to rush; with the help of recruitment specialists Berwick Partners, we have selected Alex Sherman from the South West Heritage Trust to lead us in the next stage of our work. Alex’s understanding and approach to the challenges and opportunities ahead impressed all who met him, and I look forward to working with him.”
