Flat 4, 102 Sydney Place
102 Sydney Place forms part of a Grade I Georgian terrace designed by John Pinch the Elder. Located around the outskirts of Sydney Gardens and adjacent to the Grade I Holbourne Museum, this site is situated within a critically historic area of Bath’s Georgian cityscape, contributing towards the special character of Bath as a World Heritage City and the prevailing architectural tradition of the Bath conservation area.
Therefore, the Trust approves of the replacement of the documented uPVC window with a hardwood alternative, utilising single glazing and a sash design consistent with the neighbouring window. The character of rear terraced elevations within Bath’s urban fabric as demonstrative of historic change in design and function is a highly significant aspect of the city’s visual and historic value. Therefore, we feel that this application will restore a much-needed visual uniformity to the rear of the property and consequently enhance the overall Georgian aesthetic of the rear streetscape.
