Our Response

BPT is supportive of the opportunity for the installation of EV charging ports where this appropriately complements the visual and practical amenities of the streetscape.

However, we note that the port would be located in close proximity to a street tree which currently bisects the two parking spaces in private use by 57 Mulberry Way. Whilst the tree is juvenile, we recognise that the planting of street trees has been implemented as a significant part of this recent development (completion anticipated by 2026) to establish the character and appearance of the public realm, by greening the urban environment and breaking up extensive areas of hard landscaping. We therefore maintain that this tree should be retained.

As yet, it is unclear from the plans as to whether the proposed charging unit would impact the tree or require associated pruning/cutting back works. We therefore strongly recommend that this aspect of the scheme is clarified to ensure that the tree is appropriately retained and/or protected as part of the wider street scene.
