Our Response

4 St Michael’s Road is an unlisted residential dwelling situated within the Bath World Heritage site, overlooking the conservation area. Whilst of little historic architectural value independently, the street has uniformity of appearance and coherence in its use of unorthodox roof forms. Therefore, any change should acknowledge and protect the unusual homogeneity of this streetscape.

We have no comment on the proposed rear extension that is not visible from the street. However, we are concerned regarding the proposed extension to the first floor, which will significantly impact the symmetrical appearance of the building, and interrupt the bespoke design of the roofline. We feel that this addition to the dwelling’s street-facing façade will be of detriment to the aesthetic character of the townscape in which there have been little to no visual alterations to the front elevations along St Michael’s Road.
