Proposal
External alterations for the replacement of door entry panel to front communal door.
Our Response

We strongly recommend that the existing fixing points are reused where possible to minimise the need for further drill holes and associated, irreversible loss of historic stonework. Where possible, the use of a non-reflective, neutral finish is encouraged to ensure that the entry panel remains a recessive addition to the façade of a Grade II* listed building; this should be specified as part of the application rather than being left to Condition.

We note that there is evidence of previous installations to the frontage of this property, including what appears to be a fixing point for a doorbell which has since been removed. We therefore consider that this is an opportunity for associated remedial works to repair stonework and address previous damage to reduce the perceived ‘clutter’ on the building’s frontage and improve its appearance. This would be an additional heritage gain that could be considered as part of this application.
