11 Rivers Street, City Centre, Bath
11 Rivers Street is a Grade II late 18th century terraced townhouse, situated within the Bath conservation area and World Heritage Site. It forms part of the wider late 18th terrace, within which the townhouses are individually Grade II listed, within which an architectural variety of elevational treatment is seen across small sections of the wider terrace, evidential of the piecemeal development of Rivers Street. There is additionally visual diversity in the later treatment of the façade, with a number of window reveals, doorcases, and ground and lower ground floors having been painted.
BPT is supportive of the proposed removal of paint from all window reveals, the doorcase, and the main wall area to include the lower ground floor lightwell. We feel that this will improve the appearance of a listed building whilst revealing its original Bath stone finish. We supported similar paint removal works to the window reveals at 34 Rivers Street (see 20/00091/LBA).
We note the potential for issues with the stonework to be uncovered as part of paint removal works and trust that this will be repaired where appropriate and with the necessary consent.
