Proposal
External alterations for the removal of fibre cement slates to main monopitch roof and replacement with first grade Spanish slates.
Our Response

1 Upper Camden Place forms one of a pair of Grade II* early 19th century terraced houses, situated within the Bath City-Wide Conservation Area and the World Heritage Site. The pair of dwellings forms a smaller, three storey end-of-terrace addition to the increased four storey scale of development to the south end of Upper Camden Place.

Where the existing roof surface is indicated to be fibre cement slates, the reinstatement of a natural slate (even though Spanish rather than Welsh) would reinstate a more sympathetic and traditional material finish in keeping with the special interest of a listed building. Replacement of the later, non-historic roof coverings and reintroduction of a natural slate in this location is considered to be an enhancement.
