Display of 1no. externally illuminated replacement pictorial head, non-illuminated house name letters, 2no. non-illuminated facility signs and 2no. non-illuminated railway sleepers incorporating “pub.food.rooms”.

Our Response

Blathwayt Arms is an unlisted public house situated within Lansdown village, within the indicative landscape setting of the Bath conservation area and World Heritage site, and within the Green Belt and Cotswolds AONB. It contributes towards the built landscape of the main approach into Bath city centre.

Considering the building’s distinctly rural setting, we feel that the addition of “bullet light” uplighting to the proposed freestanding sign to be incongruous. We would suggest that lighting additions to the pub’s frontage and boundary is kept to a minimum to maintain the low-level light character of Bath and its environs. Should additional illumination be permitted, we would instead recommend a more traditional form is selected, such as the proposed lantern over the entrance doors.
