Creation of light well to basement beneath pavement at front of house. Restoration of basement facade.

Our Response

We question the proposed insertion of upright railings to this elevation given that it is not clear what originally existed there. Given the width of the pavement the lightwell will have to be quite narrow and may look incongruous in the street scene. We think that a better solution would be traditional lightwell topped by a flat iron grille. This would help solve the light and water ingress issue without the need to instigate a new feature to the front elevation. We understand further works are occurring within the listed building and assume that a listed building consent application for this scheme and for any works inside the building will be submitted as soon as possible.
