Our Response

4 Bathwick Hill is a Grade II late Georgian villa situated within a historically and architecturally significant part of the Bath conservation area and World Heritage site. It is positioned within a dense streetscape of Grade II listed Georgian villas with generously-sized private gardens and a distinctive palette of Bath stone ashlar and subtle Neoclassical features.

We feel the introduction of a cantilevered sliding gate would be a beneficial, light touch option which would preserve and enhance the appearance and character of the conservation area by instating an unbroken boundary treatment, utilising a design complementary to the area’s traditional vernacular.

However, we would recommend that further details regarding the design of the gate are submitted to the LPA, particularly as to how the gate will be installed and what fixings, either to the ground or existing wall, will be required.
