External and internal alterations to include the separation of 1 Sion Hill Place from Summerhill.

Our Response

Whilst we have no major concerns regarding the separation of the two buildings we would like to underline the information supplied by the Sion Hill Residents Association about the special historic associative interest of the philanthropist Ernest Cook and his strong connections to both Summerhill (the façade of which he saved from demolition and where he housed his art collections) and 1 Sion Hill Place (where he lived). This important aspect of the historic significance of these buildings was somewhat lacking in any detail in the Statement of Significance and will be a key factor in both ongoing development plans for No.1 and for, we hope, interpretative work by Kingswood School regarding Summerhill once the separation is made
