7 – 9 North Parade Buildings, City Centre, Bath, Bath and North- East Somerset, BA1 1NS
Note that the following comments are generally limited to the retrofit elements.
7-9 North Parade Buildings are included on the National Heritage List for England at Grade II (list entry number: 1395819). The proposal site is located within the Bath World Heritage Site(s) and the city-wide conservation area, and there are numerous listed buildings in the immediate vicinity.
BPT are supportive in principle of the proposed installation of the air source heat pumps and the solar PVs, which appear to be in discreet locations. Details of the proposed roof insulation appears to be lacking from the submission, though of course it may not require listed building consent dependant on the approach. In light on a seemingly undetermined approach, consideration could be given to the advice as published by Historic England https://historicengland.org.uk/advice/technical-advice/retrofit-and-energy-efficiency-in-historic-buildings/upgrading-thermal-elements-installing-insulation/insulating-roofs-in-historic-buildings/.
Though not forming part of the subject application, consideration could be given to the future installation of secondary glazing. Of course, dependant on any shutters being in situ, the potential impact on historic joinery and/or features and it respecting the glazing pattern of the window it serves.
BPT supports sensitive sustainability retrofits that are appropriate to the special qualities of the historic environment.
