The Bath Clinic, Claverton Down Road, Claverton Down

Proposal
Installation of rooftop plant and equipment; erection of courtyard plant room; and all associated works to support the Hospital’s existing operating theatres and recovery room.
Our Response

The Bath Clinic is an unlisted building situated within the Bath World Heritage Site and the indicative townscape setting of the Bath conservation area, just on the outskirts of the Combe Down character area. The modern hospital complex is located around the early 20th century detached double-gabled building previously identified as Longwood; the small cottage situated along the roadside, identified as Longwood Cottage, is contemporary to this building and also dates to the early 20th century. The site is located within the Green Belt and the Cotswolds AONB.

This application refers to the 2001 two-storey extension in an overtly modern style which forms the core of the hospital complex.

We recommend that further information such as the colour and finish of the proposed AHUs is submitted. We encourage the selection of a recessive, neutral colour in a matte finish to appropriately minimise the visibility of additional additions to the roof from the main road.
