External alterations for the minor revisions to windows in approved scheme 15/03478/FUL.

Our Response

The Trust welcomes the planned re-opening of this local pub. The proposed bi-fold doors at ground level would not harm the special interest of the building. However, the current scheme includes the loss of a sash window at the rear, but it is not easy to understand whether this window was historic or not. Normally if an historic window is to be lost, justification is required and the replacement should be a scholarly replica. We understand that the casement has been installed, but its proportions are strange and do not reflect a traditional casement. The windows at first floor level are not easily seen from the back alley and the Trust is unable to assess the impact of the casement design on the significance on the interior of this listed building. The Council should satisfy itself that no harm has been caused to the overall significance of this listed building.
