Proposal
Display of 1no. non illuminated fascia sign above entrance to Kings Court.
Our Response

Kings Court forms part of a Grade II late Georgian residential terrace, now offices and shops, situated at the core of the Bath conservation area and World Heritage site. It is of notable visual significance within the conservation area due to its double frontage along both Union Street and Parsonage Lane; the Trust therefore maintains that any proposed signage should both accord with the aesthetic and material shop front tradition of Bath whilst simultaneously minimising the potential harm to the historic appearance and fabric of a listed building.

Whilst we appreciate that the proposed signage has previously been consented (see application 19/01633/LBA), the Trust maintains our concern regarding the potentially irreversible harm to historic fabric through the mounting of individual metal letters directly into the stonework. We would therefore strongly recommend that the age of the stonework surrounding the existing entrance is clarified to better assess the suitability of the proposed sign; this application would be more appropriately justifiable if it only resulted in a loss of modern stonework with negligible historic value.
