Extremal alterations for cleaning of front elevation and north (side) elevation of rear extension.

Our Response

27-29 Henrietta Street form a group of Grade I Georgian terraced houses, now a hotel, situated within the Bath conservation area and World Heritage site. Their regular, symmetrical facades contribute to the architectural consistency and aesthetic merit of the area, and therefore their appearance should be maintained and enhanced where possible.

BPT is supportive of the proposed stone cleaning works, although it is recommended to supply cleaning samples as part of the application. We note that the focus of cleaning on the Grade I street-facing frontage is around the parapet, rainwater hoppers, and downspouts, which could indicate leaking or the presence of blockages. We would therefore encourage that any necessary maintenance works to the downspouts and box gutters, including cleaning and repairs, are incorporated as part of the application for the benefit of the future stonework health of 27-29 Henrietta Street.
