Our Response

The Trust understands the business located within Milsom Place need to advertise, however in this case we object to this application on the basis of the LED illumination. Bath is a low illuminated city, and there is enough lighting in Milsom Place to adequately illuminate the lettering.

The proposed illumination would be harmful to the special interest of the heritage asset, would neither preserve nor enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area and would detract from the special qualities of the WHS. The application is contrary to the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) sections 16, 66 and 72, Section 16 (Conserving and Enhancing the Historic Environment) of the NPPF. Also be contrary to B&NES Local Plan Policy D2 ‘Local Character and Distinctiveness’ and D4 “Streets and Spaces”. B&NES Core Strategy policy CP6 ‘Environment Quality’ and Policy B4 ‘The World Heritage Site and its Setting’.
