Replacement of ground floor shopfront windows & doors.
Our Response The Trust shares the concerns of the BHW that the proposed works to the façade of the listed building are not sufficiently researched or justified. Whilst we concur that the current multi-pane window arrangement is neither authentic nor an enhancement to the listed building, the submitted report does not provide much in the way of a building specific assessment of need or impact or a historical regression that could underpin, inform and justify the proposal to insert the type and design of windows proposed. This building is a highly visible corner site within the WHS and it is important that any intervention to the listed building not only maintains but enhances it significance. Such an enhancement should be more fully thought through than just copying nearby 20th century shop frontages.
