Our Response

7 Pierrepont Street forms part of a Grade II* Georgian Palladian-style terrace situated within the core of the Bath conservation area and World Heritage site. It forms part of the grand approach between the Bath Station and Parade Gardens.

Considering the Grade II* status of this building, the Trust is surprised at the lack of information provided within the application. We do not feel that the D&A/Heritage Statement adequately explores the potential impact of the works as proposed.

Whilst the Trust is, in principle, supportive of secondary glazing as a less invasive means of improving the thermal performance of listed buildings whilst retaining historic window fenestration, we note the lack of information provided regarding the existing windows, and the proposed type of secondary glazing and how it would be mounted. We would therefore request that this information, along with full-scale details of the existing and proposed window profiles, are made available to the LPA before this application can progress further. It is important to be able to assess, if the existing windows are of any historic significance, whether the installation of secondary glazing may necessitate the loss of original fabric, or compromise the aesthetic and architectural integrity of a listed building.

We would additionally note proposals for the installation of “new galvanised steel steps”. We would therefore further recommend that full-scale details of the new steps are made available to the LPA for assessment.
