Change of shop door and window frame to aluminium anthracite grey.

Our Response

3 Rivers Street is an unlisted building situated within the Bath conservation area and World Heritage site. It forms part of the localised high street along Julian Road and the setting of multiple Grade II late Georgian heritage assets along Burlington Place.

The Trust maintains that timber shop fronts should be retained as part of the shared shopfront vernacular within the conservation area where traditional materials and finishes are utilised. With few exceptions, Julian Street remains an area in which timber shop frontages and associated signage have been retained in neutral colours to better harmonise with the street’s Bath stone ashlar palette. Therefore, we feel that the replacement of the existing timber details of the shopfront with aluminium equivalents will be of direct detriment to the streetscape character of this portion of the conservation area, as well as Bath’s overall shopfront vernacular.
