Our Response

3 North Parade Buildings forms part of a Grade II mid-18th century terrace of townhouses, now a mix of residential and offices, situated within the Bath conservation area and World Heritage Site. The terrace constitutes an early example of the architectural form and height used throughout Bath utilising Palladian elements such as Corinthian columns and triangular pediments over the front doors and first floor windows. Material changes are restricted to less visible areas of the building such as the basement and rear elevation but are expected to complement and harmonise with the established architectural interest of the building.

It is unclear as to whether the proposed windows would be double glazed or slimline double glazed from the drawings without the relevant measurements. The Trust maintains a preference for the use of slimline to mitigate any potential visual harm to a listed building through the ‘double reflection’ common with standard double glazing and ensure an aesthetic continuity and harmony with original or historic fenestration styles. This detail should therefore be clarified with the LPA before this application can progress further.
