Construction of single storey SEN(D)/ASD teaching block, following demolition of existing caretakers bungalow.

Our Response

The proposed site of development is the disused caretaker’s bungalow on the grounds of Oldfield School. Whilst outside the boundary of the Bath conservation area, the site remains within the periphery of the Bath World Heritage site, and forms part of the Bath and Bristol Green Belt.

BPT is supportive of the proposed scheme, and has no objections to the design, use of materials, or the positioning of the new building. However, we would suggest that more information is supplied regarding the proposed Siberian larch cladding, and how the timber will be treated as part of the construction process. We feel that it would be beneficial that the timber elements of the building are allowed to weather to produce a softer, more subtle appearance which will better integrate with the Green Belt setting of the school.
