Our Response

1 College Road is an unlisted mid-19th century semi-detached dwelling situated within the Bath conservation area and World Heritage Site. It provides a formal, symmetrical elevation designed to mirror its semi-detached neighbour with three storey bay windows, arched dormer windows, and single pane timber sash windows.

Should the principle of a roof infill extension be deemed acceptable by the LPA, we strongly recommend that the structure is retained below the established roof ridge line so as to conceal it from public view. We note that no proposed elevations of the principal south elevation have been provided. The Trust is concerned regarding the proposed addition of a roof lantern to the roof of the infill extension which is shown to sit above the ridge line in the visual montages provided and would unbalance the existing, aesthetic uniformity and unity of the semi-detached dwellings. We therefore suggest that this application is amended to exclude the roof lantern to ensure the preservation of the pleasing symmetrical designed treatment of both 1 & 2 College Road.
