HOUSING DEVELOPMENT OF KINGSWOOD PLAYING FIELDS? NO THANKS!

Bath Preservation Trust is fighting a move from B&NES Council to include in their housing development plans a large area of school playing fields adjacent to the MOD Ensleigh site on Lansdown.

The Trust’s position is that while the brownfield MOD site should be developed sensitively for housing, the playing fields, currently belonging to the Royal High School and Kingswood School, should not be considered for development and should be removed from the Council’s ‘Concept Statement’ for the development of the MOD sites.

It is our position that such development would be highly damaging to the setting of Bath World Heritage Site and the Grade 1 listed Beckford’s Tower, and make a mockery of the Council’s own policy to develop all of its brownfield land before developing greenfield land.

The statements made to the Council’s Cabinet on 11 July can be accessed by clicking on the following links:

We encourage members to write to their local councillor and raise awareness of this issue.
