View this post on Instagram

Good morning all. Inspired by Mr @themontydon and @gardenersworldmag over the coming weeks we aim to bring you our very own ‘jobs for the weekend’ ⁣⁣ to help you keep up with the care and maintenance of traditional homes and encourage sustainable living in Bath. ⁣ ⁣⁣ Each week we’ll bring you things to check, clean, make and do at home. ⁣As well as bringing you snapshots of our beloved Bath, the cherished local scenes and heritage houses we seek to sustain in and around our beautiful City. ⁣ ⁣⁣ Jobs for this Weekend: ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🏡 Check gutters and hoppers – look for leaks and blockages from ground level if it is raining. Do not attempt high level work, only clear leaf debris and blockages if you can do so safely. ⁣⁣ 🏡 Clean exterior paving stones, stone pathways ordecking boards which have become slippery over winter.⁣⁣ 🏡 Make a checklist for the inspection and maintenance of your home. Go to Historic England and SPAB for detailed guidance… @spab1877 www.spab.org.uk/advice/knowledge-base; @historicengland www.historicengland.org.uk/advice/technical-advice/buildings/maintenance-plans-for-older-buildings/⁣⁣ 🏡 Do read our latest responses to planning applications on our website and consider writing in response to development proposals that may affect you or your property. ⁣ ⁣ Stay safe and well and make the most of your weekend at home. 🧡🏠 ⁣ ⁣ @houseandgardenuk @period_living @savills @architectsjournal @insallarch @bath_uk @historicengland @unescoworldheritage @countrylifemagazine @countrylivinguk @countryandtownhouse @gardens_illustrated @periodhomeandinteriors #houseandhome #houseandgarden #house #architecture #oldbuildings #oldbuildinglover #cityofBath #igersbath #rennovation #design #facade #facadelovers #cityscape #environment #sustainableliving #climateemergency #sustainability #savingtheplanet #greenbuilding #heritage #worldheritage #worldheritagesite #heritagefromhome #BathMatters #covid #weekend #thewknd #darlingweekend #Bath #WeLoveBath

It’s Friday! which means it’s time for this weeks #JobsfortheWeekend⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ Here’s our suggested things to check, clean, make and do over the long Easter weekend at home.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Check radiators are they heating are heating your home properly and efficiently, do they need bleeding?⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Clean windows and repaint timber window frames. Check for decay. The traditional colour for Bath’s heritage homes is off white and matte rather than brilliant white gloss.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Make a draught excluder for doors and sash windows. WE would love to see your makes, or improvisations! i.e the dog? So please tag us! @pillarboxblue {second picture} shows us how to use a pair of old jeans to draught proof a sash window. Alternatively use linen or calico if you’re not a fan of denim. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Do seek professional advice about the approach to extensions, alterations, maintenance and repairs, we are here to help. Send an email to conservation@bptrust.org.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ ⁣have a lovely weekend all!

Jobs for the weekend! ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Check garden fences and make repairs so that they survive future storms. ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Clean front door steps and your own section of pavement. There was a time when looking after your patch of pavement was the norm in terraced streets, when washing floor tip soapy water over the path, step and pavement. Old stone steps should be gently cleaned with a natural bristle brush. ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Make natural air fresheners for your home, stud a lemon or orange with cloves and hang with a ribbon. If you have essential oils soak either cotton pads or small off-cuts of softwood with scented oils and leave in a sealed plastic bag overnight. Then put the cotton pads or blocks to a small gauze bag and hang in wardrobe or room. ⁣ ⁣ 🏡 Do prune climbing and trailing plants growing close to your home over stone walls to prevent damage.
