Proposal
Display of non-illuminated lettering above entrance door.
Our Response

This is an attractive moulded pedimented doorway detailed in the listing description and we object to the insertion of mounted lettering below the pediment, not only for reasons of harm to historic fabric (pockmarking) but also visual harm in relation to cluttering this architectural feature. There is ample opportunity for the business name to be advertised on the rectangular fanlight above the door without the need to insert invasive signage into old Bath stone.

This proposal would harm the special interest of the listed building and is therefore is contrary to the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and fails to comply with Section 12 (Conserving and enhancing the historic environment) of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), policies; B1, B4 and CP6 of the B&NES Core Strategy and policies; B1,B4 & HE1 of the B&NES Placemaking Plan. For this reason we object to this application and recommend that the scheme is amended to remove this element.
