Information for volunteers

Bath Preservation Trust Archives are the records of Bath Preservation Trust itself.  They document the history of the Trust since it was established in 1934.

The Archives include:

  • Bath Preservation Trust Annual Reports from 1935 and Newsletters from 1964.
  • Photographs of buildings and streets in Bath, mostly late 20th century
  • Architectural plans, late 20th century.
  • Correspondence about changes to buildings or proposed demolition
  • Information about proposed major developments and new roads in the late 20th century.
  • Surveys of interior architectural features of some houses in Bath, surveyed c.1988 to 2008.  These are only available to the owners or occupiers of those houses for security reasons.
  • Newspaper cuttings about conservation issues, 1970s to 1980s.

The Archives are mainly used by those researching the history of their own house but are also of use to anyone interested in architectural history, the history of town planning and changing attitudes to conservation.

The Archive Room is open by appointment with the Archivist.
